Test Equipment

Cesaroni Technology Incorporated provides test equipment to a wide variety of customers including automotive manufacturers (OEM's, Tier 1 and aftermarket), municipal transit authorities, racing teams, heavy equipment manufacturers and off-road vehicle builders. CTI combines commercially available off the shelf (COTS) equipment with its own custom equipment, electronics and software to provide customers with fully integrated testing solutions. In Canada, CTI represents SuperFlow Corporation, a manufacturer of test equipment for the automotive marketplace.

Systems and components currently available include dynamometers, electronic interface modules, data acquisition systems and computer controlled test benches, wind tunnels and DataCAD data acquisition and machine control software.

Engine, Transmission and Chassis Dynamometers

CTI specializes in complete turnkey engine, chassis and transmission dynamometer test cell facilities. Working with the customer, CTI translates all of the test specifications into a complete engineering design package. Once the customer approves the design, CTI takes on the role of prime contractor and installs all necessary buildings and test cell enclosures, building services including heating, ventilation and air conditioning, interior finishes and finally all test equipment and computer systems. Cesaroni Technology Incorporated provides all on-site training and support through its network of field service engineers.

Typical types of test cell projects include gasoline, compressed natural gas and diesel engine dynamometers (water brake and eddy current), chassis dynamometers (water brake and eddy current), towing dynamometers and vehicle emissions facilities.

For companies wishing to do their own general contracting, CTI can prepare an engineering package for the customer to implement on their own. CTI would then be responsible for the test equipment manufacture, installation and support only.

Electronic Interface Modules

Cesaroni Technology Incorporated provides custom engine interface modules for use on electronically controlled gasoline and diesel engines to automotive OEM's, aftermarket manufacturers, engine rebuilders and municipal transit authorities and well as other test equipment manufacturers. Our interfaces connect directly to the vehicle/engine harness and do not interfere with the vehicle's computers.

Typically used in closed-loop dynamometer testing, our electronic throttle interfaces, for example, allow dynamometer control systems to communicate directly with the engine ECM. Throttle position information is passed from the dynamometer control system directly to the engine ECM, eliminating complicated, cumbersome and problematic servo-controlled throttle linkages. This reduces test cell downtime and maintenance issues. We can provide an electronic throttle interface for almost any engine ECM and connect it to virtually any dynamometer control system. Data Acquisition Systems and Computer Controlled Test Benches

CTI designs and manufactures a line of portable data acquisition systems and computer controlled test benches that are used to test alternators, compressors, power steering units and other vehicle ancillary components and systems. Typical users include automotive manufacturers (OEM and aftermarket suppliers), engine rebuild shops, municipal transit authorities and engine component manufacturers and developers. All of our systems use DataCAD data acquisition and machine control software that allows the users of these test benches to perform tasks ranging from simple diagnostic procedures to complex automated testing routines with the click of a mouse.

Wind Tunnels

Cesaroni Technology Incorporated designs and manufactures a complete line of thermodynamic wind tunnels which are used to test the performance of heat exchangers such as engine radiators, turbocharger intercoolers, transmission oil coolers, air-conditioning evaporators and condensers, power steering oil coolers and HVAC coils. These closed-loop systems incorporate several feedback loops that precisely control variables such as inlet fluid temperature, inlet air temperature, inlet fluid flow and inlet airflow. As with the dynamometer systems, CTI can act as prime contractor to provide a complete turnkey wind tunnel test facility.

DataCAD Data Acquisition and Machine Control Software

DataCAD Design is a completely integrated test instrument and machine control development environment. Through the use of visual display elements, event-driven coding, and hardware interfaces to real-world instruments and machine control devices, custom test bed user interfaces or machine control systems can be developed.

There are many different data acquisition cards available, and each has its own unique methods of being read from or written to. Many other pieces of data acquisition software are "hard coded" to work with a finite set of cards. Not so with DataCAD, as it uses the same time-tested concepts that make Windows work with a whole host of printers, display adapters, and modems. Rather than talking directly to a data acquisition card, DataCAD instead talks to a driver, which acts as the "translator" between the software and the data acquisition hardware.

DataCAD is then able to make the Data Acquisition card's resources more user-friendly by giving them human-readable names, such as "Torque" or "Speed". A hardware driver supplies a pre-defined set of native resources, but DataCAD is not restricted to working with these raw resources. DataCAD allows a programmer to develop "synthesized resources" (mathematically derived from one or more native resources). For example, a new resource called "Horse Power" could be created, even though it can't be directly read with a single sensor. Instead, inputs from "Torque" and "Speed" could be mathematically combined to generate "Horse Power". Once that is done, "Horse Power" can be used as if it were any other native resource.

DataCAD is composed of two main modules and one secondary module. DataCAD Design is used for the creation of projects while Runtime is used to actually operate the data acquisition system or machine control system. The third program, called DataServ, is used only for real-time data acquisition over TCP/IP networks.

Most of the power and features of the DataCAD system are located in the Design portion of the program. This allows the creation of a range of projects, from the very simple to the very complicated. DataCAD Design's features will appear to the end user as fully integrated parts of the Runtime project. Some of these features include:
